The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a school-based group intended to represent the school, the community, and those persons closest to the students. The group shares responsibility for guiding the school toward continuous improvement.
Goals and Purpose
- To provide parents, teachers, students and the community an opportunity to actively participate in the development of educational priorities, assessment of the schools' needs and development of a School Improvement Plan (SIP).
- To bring into closer relation the school, home, and community so that parents, teachers, and community members may cooperate in a positive way for the education of students.
- Provide a liaison between the school, school organizations and the neighborhood community.
- To positively impact student achievement by empowering the community and school personnel to be involved in shared decision making.
- To impart an understanding of the significance and responsibilities of the family and of parental obligation to the educational process.
The School Advisory Council is responsible for:
- final decision making at the school relating to the implementation of the provisions of the annual School Improvement Plan (SIP)
- assisting in the annual preparation and evaluation of both the SIP and the school's annual budget
- deciding jointly with the school faculty how A+ recognition funds are spent
- performing functions as prescribed by regulations of the school board
The School Advisory Council meets approximately four times throughout the school year.
